Wiri Sign Off

(Newmarket to Onehunga) – (Waitemata to Pukekohe)

  • Wiri Yard has roads 1 through 24 (road 15 is not commissioned).
  • Roads 1 to 8 are split into north and south ends, north being Alpha, Bravo, and south being Charlie, Delta. There is an ATSB travelling through C or B, either side.
  • Road 8 is a run‑around road but is still protected by an ATSB on both sides of C and B.
  • Road 9 is the wash road, with an ATSB before the south end entrance, and the other ATSB is after the graffiti bay.
  • Road 10 is for the wheel lathe and is non‑electrified, with ATSB at either end.
  • Roads 11 and 12 are electrified with protection in place in front of the maintenance facility on the north and south ends. Protections include the derailer and two‑position ground light.
  • Road 13 is a non‑electrified road and has electric service limit boards and steps on the north and south ends.
  • Road 14 is a run‑around road as well, with a northern back shunt for easy repositioning. Road 14 has a route indicator before the road splits to signify where you are going in Wiri West.
  • Road 15 is not commissioned.
  • Roads 16 and 17 are heavy cleaning platforms.
  • Roads 18 to 24 have no ATSB.
  • Wiri Yard is 15 km/h, unless you pass the 10 km/h board up to the steps on Roads 10 to 13. The speeds inside the maintenance facility, on and past the derailer/two‑position ground light, are 5 km/h.
  • Road 9 is 15 km/h; however, the speed through the Train Wash is 3 km/h.

  • Do not take U or D (Flashing) route indications, or F and S which will take you to the East Sidings.
  • Do not take F or L route indications at Westfield on the Up Main or Centre Main. It is important to remember the Centre Main or Up Main can’t take you to the NIMT Down Main.

Correct Routes:

  • D1 – NAL Down Main (Penrose)
  • U1 – NAL Up Main (Penrose)
  • U2 – NIMT Up Main (Sylvia Park)
  • W – NIMT West Main (Sylvia Park)
  • Check your service, B for (Onehunga Branch), or D for a normal Southern Service. You can take a U but stop and check with Train Control if you have not been advised prior.
  • Do not take a Low Speed from the 318.
  • Confirm your service before leaving the Waitemata Tunnel.
  • Routes can be OU/OD (Orakei UP or DOWN), and NU/ND (Newmarket UP or DOWN). You can also be given a K2 to the East Car Sidings. 36 can't give a NU.
  • Do not take any D's in Papakura (unless running empty and is specified by Train Control), or any P4 as it is non‑electrified.
  • U – Up Main (Platform 1)
  • P2 – West Loop (Platform 2)
  • P3 – West Main (Platform 3)
  • SI – Stabling Road 1
  • S2 – Stabling Road 2
  • Do not take any D's in Pukekohe, it leads to a non‑electrified road.
  • P1 – Western Loop (Platform 1)
  • U – NIMT Up Main (Platform 2)
  • P3 – Eastern Main (Platform 3)
  • P4 – Eastern Loop (Platform 4)
